Ensuring Safe and Seamless Flooring Transitions for Every Home

Here in Arizona, many homeowners come to us wanting to install new flooring but feeling apprehensive about residential transition strips. One of the main concerns is that traditional transition strips sit in a metal track, which can easily become a tripping hazard—especially in doorways and staircases where laminate has been installed.

The Transition Strip Challenge

Transition strips are essential for bridging different flooring types, but standard options can create safety issues. People often catch their feet on these strips, and for seniors or those with mobility challenges, this can be a significant concern.

One of my top recommendations when working with homeowners—especially those in their seventies and eighties who may be transitioning to mobility aids like walkers or wheelchairs—is opting for a rubber transition strip. While it might not be a perfect color match, it provides a lower profile, reducing trip hazards and ensuring a smoother transition between flooring types.

Finding the Best Solution for Each Home

Every home has unique needs, and we evaluate all transition strip options to determine the best approach. Whether transitioning from laminate to tile, hardwood to carpet, or any other combination, we aim to create a seamless, safe, and visually appealing flooring connection.

Right now, I’m working on a project where a homeowner uses a walker. In this case, a traditional metal track transition strip simply isn’t an option. Instead, we’re installing a customized rubber transition that will minimize the height difference and make movement throughout the home as smooth and safe as possible.

Safety and Comfort First

If you or your loved ones are considering remodeling your home for safety and accessibility, choosing the right flooring transitions is just as important as selecting the flooring itself. A properly installed, well-thought-out transition can prevent falls, improve mobility, and enhance overall comfort in the home.

If you’re a senior or assisting aging parents with a home remodel, give us a call. We’ll work with you to find the best flooring solutions that prioritize safety, style, and long-term usability.
